Williamson & Associates has expanded the engineering group to provide our customers with extensive electrical, electronic and mechanical design capabilities. Designs begin with the conceptual development, progress to detailed design, and culminate in a final working project ready for sea. Large and small projects are handled with the same care and process management by the staff of highly experienced design engineers, CAD operators and engineering assembly personnel. Mechanical designs are implemented in current 3-D technology with a 2-D drawing package as an option. Older AutoCAD legacy drawings can be imported into the newer 3-D systems if the customer has this requirement. The level of documentation control and quality assurance documentation can vary from a minimal system for small designs to larger, fully process-controlled engineering, manufacturing and production procedures. Williamson & Associates' in-house scientific staff, when working in conjunction with the engineering group, provides a unique capability to provide functional, seaworthy design solutions for both our customers and internal needs. Manufacturing of large oceanographic systems is accomplished by careful partnering with local fabricators, for major components, with the final finishing and integration processes within our warehouse facility. High warehouse ceilings and large shop floor area allow the completion of most systems within the Williamson & Associates facility. Onsite and at sea training is available depending on customer needs. The extensive at sea experience of the Williamson & Associates Survey Group is available to assist with complete at sea training and shipboard deployment as well as survey vessel selection and developing deployment processes for the task at hand. |

The BMS-1 was built in 1996 by Williamson & Associates, Inc. for the Metal Mining Agency of
Japan (MMAJ). The BMS-2 was delivered in 2005. The systems are presently installed on MMAJ's research ship
Hakurei Maru No. 2. The BMS-2 represents the third generation of remotely operated seafloor coring systems
designed by Williamson & Associates. It uses conventional rotary-hard-rock and soil
sampling tools combined with computer controlled automation of the procedures required for
making up and breaking down a drill string. These methods are being used to develop new
systems with coring depths to 100 meters and beyond. The systems can be used from ships
of opportunity. The capability and portability of these remotely operated coring systems
makes them a cost effective alternative to drill ships for detailed sampling of the upper
layers of the seafloor. |

Williamson & Associates Inc. developed the operations and control software for the PROD
(Portable Remotely Operated Drill) system, owned and operated by Benthic GeoTech Pty, Ltd. in
Australia. The PROD provides seafloor sampling and in situ geotechnical testing of
the seabed from vessels of opportunity. Operational in water depths to 2000 meters, the PROD
is capable of rotary diamond rock drilling and coring ( piston coring, push sampling and
rotary techniques) to 100 meters below the seafloor. |

REDAS
is used to complement conventional geophysical surveying techniques to provide an improved
prediction of the geotechnical characteristics of the top few meters of seafloor sediments.
The REDAS unit implements a direct current electrical resistivity system while being
towed in contact with the bottom at 1-2 knots. REDAS is designed to operate from vessels of
opportunity using standard handling equipment and deep sea coaxial cables. |

C-BASS® is also used to complement conventional geophysical surveying techniques to provide an
improved prediction of the geotechnical characteristics of the top few meters of seafloor
sediments. This information will improve the optimization and cost effectiveness of the
cable manufacturing and installation processes. C-BASS® is a special purpose remotely operated
vehicle (ROV) that provides enhanced cable burial assessment information during the
geophysical survey and prior to cable manufacture. C-BASS® is towed in contact with
the seafloor and utilizes 2 primary data acquisition subsystems: resistivity and
induced polarization. C-BASS® is also designed to operate from vessels of
opportunity using standard handling equipment and deep sea coaxial cables. (C-Bass is a registered trademark of Williamson & Associates, Inc.) |
